Journeys We Offer

Unlike other trips to Greece and the neighboring countries, our itineraries are not a compilation of places and destinations.  Rather, each trip presents a central theme around which the journey is constructed. This way, your travel experience becomes more meaningful, enriching and memorable. We do not treat you as a tourist, but as a traveler who desires to know and learn.  Who not only wants to see the places and sites, but wishes to know their history and get to “know” the people and the culture that built them. Not just years and numbers, but the human and cultural aspects that created the ageless monuments and fabled sites. Our accompanying expert guest lecturers will share with you their knowledge and insights, making it possible for you to have a deeper and more holistic understanding of the places you will visit. And you will visit not only the well-known monuments, but you will also discover rarely-visited sites, towns and villages.

As important and as consequential history is, we do not dwell only on the past. On our journeys we also explore issues that are current and which pertain to the people who live their everyday life in the countries and specific locations we visit. We consider travel to be primarily a learning experience. That’s why we say that when you travel with Thalassa Journeys you will enrich your mind and inspire your senses.

Travel in Small Groups

When you travel with Thalassa Journeys, you will travel with a small group of like-minded travelers. The group size on our journeys averages 18 travelers. The small size of the groups fosters a genuine sense of camaraderie, intimacy and exclusivity and allows privileged and private access to places that larger groups cannot visit. Furthermore, it makes possible more meaningful interaction with the accompanying expert guest lecturers and local guides.

Private Journeys

We will be happy to tailor a private journey for you, your family and/or friends. The numbers of travelers can be as small or as large as you wish. Just tell us your interests and we will present a suggested itinerary. There is no extra added fee for structuring and operating a private journey. Please contact us for further information.

Themes on Our Journeys

The defining element of each of our journeys is the main theme it presents, but the theme is not a monolithic endeavor for we include other aspects and topics that are important to the places we visit. For example, on a food and wine or musical journey to Greece, we also explore ancient sites and monuments; the same on a birdwatching journey during which we also cover other topics such as the effect of climate change and the conflict between preservation and economic development; on the journey that explores the history, culture and legacy of Byzantium, we include in our visits and discussions other monuments that were created during or after the Byzantine era. Our aim is to deliver to the traveler as much as possible an all-encompassing knowledge of the destinations and the people who populated them and still do today.

Expert Guest Lecturers

Each of our journeys is accompanied by an expert guest lecturer. They are selected not only for their incredible knowledge and expertise, but also because they are engaging speakers and compatible fellow travelers. We draw our expert guest lecturers from academia, other learning, cultural and scientific organizations and include figures from the arts, letters and journalism. Throughout the journey, you will enjoy a series of talks and discussions by these distinguished scholars and study leaders. And they will illuminate our destinations – what they were, how they came to be, and why they matter to us.

As a complement to our expert guest lecturers, we also have the added benefit of our experienced local guides who serve as our daily interpreters at the sites we explore. They bring to the table their immersion in the history and culture of the lands they live in as well as a unique insider’s point of view.
